The Wedding of Sarah Hennessey and Wifrene Pomann
on January 24, at Two Bridges Hotel, Dartmoor
Photographs: Richard Austin
Wilf and Sarah met in 2001, when Sarah was a student nurse and he had just come over from the Philippines to work as a staff nurse. He then introduced himself and their relationship developed from that moment on. Wilf proposed on December 6, 2007.
When they were looking for dates to get married they had in mind a winter wedding because Sarah is a great fan of winter colours and the cosy atmosphere that winter months create.
Sarah said: "The Two Bridges Hotel was just perfect for our civil ceremony and reception. It had a cosy and warm atmosphere with real log fires, and the grounds provided perfect backdrops for our photographs.
"After visiting the hotel several times we got to know the hotel staff and the colour themes that would work well. I chose to have a claret, silver and ivory colour theme because I love the warm wintery colours." They started the big search for wedding dresses and Sarah found her gown in Pronuptia.
Sarah said: "It was so lovely trying on and choosing wedding dresses together with my mum. The bridesmaids wore Romantica dresses in claret.
"Our next-door neighbour, Roy Nethercott, made our wedding cake for us. We wanted quite a traditional cake with real flowers. My friend from work made the menu cards and placecards for our wedding, which reflected our colour scheme."
Our ceremony was at 12.30pm and I walked in to the song I Do by Westlife, as the words are very special to us.
Photographer Richard Austin took wonderful photos throughout the whole day.
Sarah said: "It was lovely to have our family and friends join us in celebrating two weddings and a 50th birthday. The memories of the whole weekend will be cherished forever."
